WHAT QUALIFIED ACTUALLY MEANS
The Watch Hours That Count As Zero
From February 1, 2027, getting monetized takes 8,000 qualified watch hours instead of 4,000. The word doing the work in that sentence is qualified, and until last week nobody had defined it. On August 12, YouTube did.
Six kinds of watch time count for nothing, and the list catches people already putting in the work. A livestream that pulled thousands live is worth zero hours if you never archived it.
Here is the full split - what counts toward those 8,000 hours, and what counts as nothing:

Five Small Channels That Stopped Being Small

Every large channel was a small one until a particular week. This takes five of them apart from the outside - what each actually changed - in a form anyone starting now could copy.

From February 1, 2027 the Partner Program asks new creators for 8,000 qualified watch hours across the previous 365 days. Spread evenly that is about 154 hours a week, plus one date that matters if you are already earning.
