THUMBNAILS The New Thumbnail Trick For More Views On the YouTube app, a video often starts playing before anyone taps it, and on a computer it plays on hover. So the first seconds of your video now help decide whether people click, too. Some creators make their first frame a copy of the thumbnail, so the thumbnail seems to come to life. We call it the hover hook, and we tested it on five of our older videos.
